Four ways to fall back in love with yourself

Here at The City Baths, Newcastle, we’re on a mission to help you fall back in love with yourself.

And while the self-love/self-care movement has taken over our social media feeds in recent years, we want to help you see beyond the facemasks and bubble baths.

Defined as the ‘regard for one’s own wellbeing and happiness’, self-love is more than just the buzzword of the moment. Looking after your wellbeing has never been more important than it is now and with that in mind, here are our top four tips to help you rediscover the self-love club…

Be kind to your mind

Speak to yourself the way you would speak to your friends when you’re trying to make them feel better. You’d never call them names or make them feel bad for having an off day, so why do it to yourself? Positive words of affirmation in the morning can improve your whole outlook on the day.

Prioritise your physical and mental health.

We’ve all heard about those mood-boosting endorphins that are released when you exercise – but did you know about all of these other benefits of working out?

  • Lower blood pressure
  • Reduced risk of diabetes
  • Improved weight control
  • Increased energy
  • Increased self-esteem and self-confidence

The list goes on…

Physical and mental health are interlinked and can affect each so never underestimate the importance of exercising. Even a short 10-minute walk can improve your mental alertness, energy and mood.

Unplug and switch off

If you haven’t already, go to your phone settings and check your usage time – you’ll probably be surprised at just how long you’re spending scrolling Instagram or Facebook. 

Switch off your phone and discover the joy in a digital detox. Use the time to read that book that’s been sitting on your bedside table or get up and get active.

Be free of the constant notifications and feel connected to the real world, and yourself, a little more each week – you’ll soon feel the benefits both physically and mentally.

Celebrate your journey so far

It’s important to remember that we are all human and we can’t always perform at our best – and that is ok. Self-love is a journey, and it takes time.

To start, write down a list of your accomplishments – you’ll be surprised at just how far you’ve come. Celebrate each victory, no matter how small and keep going – you’ve got this!
